The Island

Kiat asked whether I was trying to be poetic, so I am going to post this with long sentences, in order to break the monotony of my blog which has mostly being submitted in point form.

I went to watch "the island" with Shiqin today. It was her treat as I told her that I am too broke.

Anyway, it is a terrific movie. The theme is quite cliche but the director managed to put in enough gruesome scenes depicting destruction of both people and property such that the meaning really hits the audience. By the way, it's about cloning carried to the extreme at a time where technology is highly advanced, such that perfect human clones are made to be harvested for their spare human parts. It's about clones being treated as mere property and even murdered to keep the cloning program going.

However, despite its great visual effects, the ending is sort of a letdown, as the issue of the reaction of the public is left largely untackled, giving the audience a feeling that the movie is still hanging in mid-air.
