Cambridge

Finally reached Cambridge, the weather is very cold here, averaging about 15 degrees each day, and Chay Pui San, I cannot wear t-shirts and shorts in my room...how do you manage to do that? Im freezing everyday, especially since my heater is not working.

The flight was delayed for one hour plus, and it didnt help that I was sitting alone and had to entertain myself, so I was very bored. But i must say that the in-flight entertainment is quite good, even though the games are a bit lacking - only pokemon, mario and some stupid games.

Hmm.....after we reached Heathrow, there was a long queue at the custom which took all of us close to one hour to clear. Thank goodness we had Hui Xin's brother to show us where the bus station is after that. ok....i think that's all for the journey to Cambridge.

The stuff here are so expensive, I think I will just eat in my dining hall (which actually serves rather good food). But I have been very well-fed these past few days by the international reps. We had a formal dinner on thurs and I realised that I might be the only one freezing, as everyone managed to go in one form of dress or another. Only Michelle and I wore pants. sigh.

We went punting yesterday. It was so fun! Even though it drizzled and we got quite wet. Punting is using this stick to push against the riverbed to move the boat forward. I tried it and I dont seem to be able to go straight. Anyway....the view is so wonderful. I am so in love with the Cambridge architecture!!! And the cool / cold breeze is chilling and yet refreshing at the same time. It's like perpetually being in an aircon room.

The people here are also very nice. Everyone is so friendly and I am so glad that I chose this small and cosy college. I went room-visiting and realisd that we must have one of the 'tightest' security in Cambridge. I need to unlock 3 doors just to get into my room.

Oh! Talking about my room, I have no showers! Only a bathtub with 2 taps, hot and cold, which is shared with thousands of others. And it doesnt help that the weather is so cold here that I never feel like showering. So showering has become a chore...and I think im going to go over to Michelle's place for showers next time.

Somehow, I still dont feel that I have come to a foreign land, one that is 13.5 hours away by plane from Singapore, which is a good thing i suppose. I just need to try to understand their accent. It's a bit difficult sometimes.
